ITMAX USES AI TO GIVE KUALA LUMPUR COMMUTERS TIME BACK WITH NVIDIA

3 November 2026

ITMAX's AI sees the road, adapts the signals and tests changes in simulation before they reach the street. Where adaptive signals are live in Kuala Lumpur, peak-hour corridor travel time is already 26% shorter on average.

BARCELONA, 3 November 2026 – At Smart City Expo World Congress, ITMAX System Berhad (ITMAX), Malaysia's largest Smart City-as-a-Service provider, is showcasing how AI built with NVIDIA is helping shorten journeys across Kuala Lumpur. The approach connects three layers: SamurAI, which sees what is happening on the road; City OS, which brings it together for city operators; and City Maestro, ITMAX's AI agent, which works with City Matrix, ITMAX's AI simulation module, to test traffic decisions before they are made.

"Every minute a commuter spends at a red light is a minute they don't get back. With City Maestro, our AI agent, an operator can simply ask for a simulation, and City Matrix, powered by NVIDIA GPUs, returns the answer in near real time, so a change can be tested before it is made. Our goal is to give every Kuala Lumpur commuter 5% of their travel time back." – William Tan, CEO, ITMAX System Berhad

ITMAX: Smart City as a Service

ITMAX gives cities access to compute and a portfolio of applications, including traffic management, streetlight optimization, a digital twin, and response management. It also sets up the compute, networking and communications behind them, and manages it all for the city.

These are long-term contracts. Today ITMAX manages 950+ traffic lights, 45,000+ streetlights and 16,000+ cameras, connected by 1,100+ km of fibre.

The Offering, and the NVIDIA Technology Behind It

The foundation is infrastructure. ITMAX's AI infrastructure uses RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs for inference, H100 GPUs for model fine-tuning and NVIDIA Jetson Orin at the edge, connected by ITMAX's fibre, towers and communications networks.

On top sit the applications. SamurAI is ITMAX's video intelligence platform. City OS brings the city together: City Nexus as the data hub, City Terra as the 3D digital twin, City Help for events and tickets, City Matrix, ITMAX's AI simulation module, and City Maestro, ITMAX's AI agent that reaches all of them.

NVIDIA technology runs through each one. SamurAI is built on the NVIDIA Metropolis Blueprint for video search and summarization (VSS), with NVIDIA Cosmos 3 powering its vision-language model, fine-tuned with Cosmos Framework. City Maestro runs on NVIDIA Nemotron. City Terra's digital twin is being rebuilt with 3D Gaussian splatting trained on NVIDIA GPUs, and City Matrix is being developed with the NVIDIA team on TeraSim.

Traffic Deep Dive: SamurAI on NVIDIA VSS and Cosmos

Traffic is where it all comes together. SamurAI V2, the second generation of ITMAX's AI video platform, adds enhanced video reasoning and agentic AI. It is rolling out across ITMAX's 16,000+ cameras, with 1,000+ already running it and 10,000 planned in 2027.

NVIDIA technology sits behind it. ITMAX built SamurAI V2 on NVIDIA VSS Blueprint, and SamurAI Inspector uses NVIDIA Cosmos models, fine-tuned on Malaysian roads, to judge whether an alert is real. In the first Kuala Lumpur deployment, alert verification accuracy improved by more than 70%, with fewer false alarms. Its agentic AI layer lets operators search video and trigger workflows in plain language, and teams using it cut the time to find a specific incident by more than 90%.

Expanding into Traffic Simulation with TeraSim

City Maestro can now run traffic simulations on request. An operator simply asks what happens if a road floods, or if one lane closes after an accident. City Maestro runs the scenario in City Matrix, ITMAX's AI simulation module, and reports back.

NVIDIA GPUs make this near real time, and it runs on demand, so operators can compare options while there is still time to act. City Matrix runs TeraSim, an open source traffic simulation platform from Laplace Intelligence, and ITMAX is developing AI-optimised signal timing on it with NVIDIA.

In simulation of a three-junction cluster, AI-optimised signal timing cut delay by an average of 29.8 seconds per vehicle at about 700 vehicles an hour. That is nearly 6 hours of driver time saved for every hour of traffic in that one cluster.

From Kuala Lumpur Across Malaysia

ITMAX has been delivering smart city services for Kuala Lumpur, with traffic management at the core. On the 10 Kuala Lumpur corridors where ITMAX's adaptive signals are live, peak-hour travel time is already 26% shorter on average. Kuala Lumpur has about 230 signal clusters, so applied to every cluster, the simulated saving is potentially up to 1,300 hours of driver time every peak hour across the city.

The model is scaling. ITMAX is contracted and rolling out to 9 cities across Malaysia. City OS is now in beta in Kuala Lumpur and will reach two more major cities, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu, by mid-2027.

What’s Next

Beyond the rollout, ITMAX will extend AI signal optimisation from single clusters to whole corridors and then across the city, with every plan simulated and piloted before it goes live.

Smart City Expo World Congress runs 3 to 5 November 2026 at Fira Barcelona Gran Via. Visit Tapway, an ITMAX subsidiary, at its booth in the Malaysia pavilion to see it in action.
